| dc.description.abstract | A catalyst is a material that speeds up a chemical reaction, but is not consumed by the newlinereaction; hence a catalyst can be recovered chemically unchanged at the end of the reaction. It newlinehas been generally used to speed up a chemical reaction. In 1835, Baron J. J. Berzelius first newlineestablished the word catalysis from two Greek words kata and lyein which signifies down newlineand loosen . Generally, the substances that enhance the reaction rate are called the positive newlinecatalysts or just catalysts, while inhibitors or negative catalysts reduce the reaction rate. newlineCatalysts can only influence the kinetics of a reaction without affecting its thermodynamics. newlineStarting from the beginning, catalysis has been playing a pivotal role in the medicinal field as newlinewell as chemical industries in terms of both economic success as well as environmental newlinesustainability. Catalysis is utilized not only to produce chemicals, but also in numerous fields newlineincluding various range of research zones, to manufacture agrochemicals, household goods, newlinemedicines, energy applications (fuel cell, biofuel), petrochemicals, and pharmaceuticals etc. newline | |
