Abstract
To counter the solemn threat that has been imposed with the continuous waste dumping in the open fields scientific and strategic waste management methods should be adapted for the safety and security of the environment. In India the major portions of the municipal solid waste which are being open dumped are organic in nature. So, these types of wastes can be converted in to vermicompost which can be used for beneficial purposes. This waste can be used in agricultural fields, gardens, roof top vegetable and flower production after treating them scientifically by the process of vermitechnology. The present piece of work strongly advocates that MSW should be segregated properly and the biodegradable portion should be converted into resource like vermicompost which is called as the brown gold. As a result of which pollution load on the environment can be reduced and the waste can be converted to wealth.
