Abstract
The present research was planned to study the Solid Waste Management
newlineawareness amongst the rural population along with its impact on human health
newlineand environment. The study also focused on Solid Waste Management practices
newlinefollowed at the household and Village Panchayats. The study was conducted in
newline14 Wards of 2 Village Panchayats of North Goa and around 200 household were
newlineincluded in the study. The data was collected at 2 stages i.e. Pre-Intervention and
newlinePost-Intervention. In-between these stages, the regular intervention was done for
newlinea period approximately about 10-12 months across the Village Panchayats,
newlineHouseholds and Waste Handlers included in the study. The two Village
newlinePanchayats selected are diverse in terms geography and population density. Care
newlinewas taken that the Panchayats selected for the study had no similar intervention.
newlineConsidering the general definition of intervention is any interference that
newlinewould modify a process or situation , this study was based on A-B model of
newlineintervention research as the data collection and analysis was done at the Pre-
newlineIntervention stage and again the same parameters were checked after
newlineIntervention of the model. During the intervention, the execution of developed
newlineintervention model and the monitoring of the implementation of developed
newlinemodel was carried out with the help of NGO namely Mineral Foundation of Goa,
newlineVaglo Building, Panjim Goa
newlineThis model is an integrated approach of four approaches out of which,
newlineawareness and community organization play an important role in the entire
newlinemodel. Following are the four approaches for the successful model of Solid
newlineWaste Management n Panchayats.
