Abstract

This research examines the preservation and conservation efforts for historical architectural heritage in Patan district, Gujarat, India. Patan, founded in 802 CE by Vanraj Chavda, boasts rich sites like Rani ki Vav (UNESCO World Heritage), Sahastralinga Talav, Rudramahalaya temple, Jain mandirs, and traditional Patola weaving, reflecting Solanki-era craftsmanship. The study highlights challenges from urbanization, pollution, and natural decay, while evaluating initiatives by ASI, Gujarat government, and local communities, including excavations, restorations, digitization, and awareness programs. newlineObjectives include historical analysis, site surveys, inscription studies, and recommendations for sustainable protection. Methodology involves fieldwork, interviews, library research, and scientific tools like carbon dating. Findings reveal effective government-led water and religious site revivals but gaps in residential structures and crafts due to migration and funding issues. Suggestions emphasize increased budgets, technology integration, tourism promotion, and youth involvement to safeguard this cultural legacy for future generations.
