Abstract
Human Lymphatic filariasis is a major debilitating disease affecting
newline120 million over 80 countries This is a mosquitoborne parasitic disease
newlinecaused by three species of tissue dwelling filaroid nematodes Wuchereria
newlinebancrofti is responsible for 90 of the cases and is found throughout the
newlinetropics and in some subtropical areas worldwide
newlineAs part of the WHO sponsored Filarial Genome Project many novel
newlinegenes of Wbancrofti and Bmalayi important for their diagnostic
newlineprophylactic chemotherapeutic potential and other genes involved in immune
newlineevasion and parasite survival mechanisms have been identified from various
newlinestages of the parasite life cycle Wuchereria bancrofti protein WbSXP1 was
newlineidentified and established as a potential candidate for the diagnosis of
newlinelymphatic filariasis
