Abstract
The main aim of this study is to develop the speaking skills of the engineering students by facilitating them to use the strategies specifically meant for speaking. The importance of communication skills in English is
newlineenormously increasing day by day for a successful career. As speaking is an expressive language skill, more efforts are needed to be taken to acquire speaking competency. To be successful in the workplace situations, it is mandatory for the engineering students to have high proficiency in speaking skills. In this light, the study aims at developing their speaking proficiency. At present, strategies are used in various fields as they generally involve setting goals, determining actions to achieve the goals, and mobilizing the resources to execute the actions. As far as learning strategies are concerned, they are the specific actions, behaviors, steps, or techniques to enhance learning. It is believed that when learners consciously choose strategies that fit their learning style and the task at hand, these strategies will be useful for active, conscious, and purposeful self-regulation of learning.As far as the present study is concerned, quantitative method was adopted to carry out the experiment. The experimental study included 60 students from first-year undergraduate engineering classes.
