newlineThis study aimed to analyze the operation of Self Help Groups in order to acquire a deeper understanding of their influence on the socio-economic empowerment of women. This pertains to the discourse on how the improvement of economic prospects, along with the strengthening of group unity, might result in the liberation of women. This study primarily focuses on assessing the functioning of the Self-Help Groups (SHGs), the extent to which income is generated through SHGs, the socio-economic advantages experienced by SHG members, and the amount of individual and collective empowerment achieved through group participation. The research was carried out in the Tinsukia area of Assam. The study location has seven developmental blocks. The researcher incorporated all the blocks and deliberately chose the respondents in a convenient manner to fulfill the objectives of the study. This study employed a mixed methodology to gather, analyze, and interpret data. In this study, the researcher conducted interviews with 70 members of self-help groups (SHGs), organized a focus group discussion, and carried out 7 descriptive case studies. The researcher employed the triangulation technique, which involved conducting a case study, organizing focus-group discussions, and utilizing interview schedules, in order to validate the given objectives. The researcher has identified several parameters to study the socio-economic status of women self-help organizations. The researcher collected data on the age, educational status, marital status, year of entering the group, and performed unstructured interviews with non-SHG members. The purpose of this interview was to ascertain the rationale behind the decision to not join any Self-Help Group.
