dc.description.abstractThe use of sustainable and renewable materials in green composites has increased due to ecological threat, economical issues and environmental awareness. The materials extracted from plants attracted a lot of attention due to their attractive properties such as recyclability, environmental friendliness, biodegradability, cost effectiveness, nonabrasiveness, good mechanical properties and ease of availability. Natural fibers are one such attractive materials which are used in various potential applications including automobile products, aircraft parts, sports equipments, household appliances, office furniture s, musical panels, electrical and electronic products, building materials, paper industries and packaging items. The natural fibers are extracted from various parts of the plants such as bast, grass, stalk, leaf, fruit, root, bark, etc. The natural fibers such as flax, ramie, snake grass, hemp, jute, sisal, bamboo, banana, coir, pineapple leaf, kenaf and abaca are comprehensively used in the manufacture of the low cost and lightweight products. Among various natural fibers Snake Grass Fiber (SGF), Kenaf Fiber and Waste Tea Leaf Fiber (WTLF) have great potential to be used as reinforcement in polymer composites. SGF, Kenaf Fiber and WTLF are annual fiber plants and these are found to be the important sources of fibers for a number of industrial applications. SGF, Kenaf Fiber and WTLF are extracted from Sansevieria Ehrenbergii plant, Hibiscus Cannabinus plant and Camellia Sinensis plant respectively. SGF, Kenaf and WTLF hybridized with Glass Fibers (GF) are finding increasing applications in various fields.
