Abstract
Economical and more practical means to limit the energy shortage is
newline energy conservation , particularly for industrial consumers who account for more
newlinethan 50 percent of the total energy utilization. Owing to the features of induction
newlinemotors such as robustness, reliability, low price and maintenance free operation, they
newlineare utilized widely in industrial sectors. The total electrical input cost of industries is
newlinehighly influenced by induction motors. A small increment in efficiency of these motors
newlineby providing enhanced control or optimal design can result in substantial drop in
newlineenergy cost.
newlineTechnological advancements in solid-state power electronics devices and
newlinehigh computing capability digital controllers have made AC motor drive applications
newlinesimpler. In this thesis Sliding Mode Controller (SMC) for energy efficiency of three
newlinephase induction motor is investigated. SMC has been opted for applications like robot
newlinemanipulators and tracking control systems
