Developing Innovation Maturity Model for Automotive Component Sector in India

Abstract

The Auto Component Manufacturing (ACM) Sector in India is a significant contributor to the country s economy and to the development of the Indian automobile industry. After the advent of global auto manufacturers into the country over the past few decades; auto component firms have been exposed to global products and manufacturing standards and approaches. Due to the overall consensus that innovation aids in competitive differentiation, it could be inferred that the innovation of these ACM organisations needs to be enhanced to remain competitive and effective in the Indian and global markets. However, the present innovation status must first be measured to enable the creation of successful innovation strategies to boost the standards of products, operation and competition in these organisations to international levels. Recognising this need for a greater focus on innovation, the researcher was concerned with the deficiency of current practices to assess the innovation status and hence the innovation maturity of organisations in this Indian ACM sector. This study was therefore undertaken to address this need. newline
