Abstract
High quality power is vital for Engineering, research and industrial
newlineapplications to bring good quality results and for accurate evaluation Power
newlineelectronic circuits which are generally nonlinear in its nature are widely used
newlinein various industrial commercial and residential applications An important
newlineproblem associated with nonlinear loads is the generation of harmonics which
newlineaffect the performance of other utilities connected to the same system The
newlinehigher usage of nonlinear loads results in considerable source current
newlinedistortion which is a major power quality problem in industries The nonlinear
newlineloads generate non sinusoidal current in AC mains and cause reactive power
newlineas a concern low power factor excessive neutral current and distortion in
newlinequality of power The nonlinear loads are also responsible for lower
newlineefficiency of the system Though passive filters are used to eliminate line
newlinecurrent harmonics and to improve the power factor such filters also have
newlinemany disadvantages like resonance bulk size and fixed compensation
newlinecharacteristics In the proposed research work the problems mentioned are
newlineaddressed and control strategies for Shunt Active Power Filter SAPFhave
newlinebeen developed to improve the profile of source current thereby improving
newlinethe quality of power
