Challenges and Issues Of Differently Abled School Children In Relation To Physical Education And Sports Participation In Coastal Area Of Karnataka

Abstract

This study investigates the challenges and issues affecting differently-abled school children in newlinecoastal Karnataka concerning their participation in sports and physical education. Involving 180 newlinestudents aged 12 to 16 from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts; the research newlineuses detailed questionnaires and statistical analysis to evaluate the roles of parent, family, teacher, newlineand societal support. The study identifies key issues such as physical discomfort, age, level of newlineparticipation, lack of time, societal support, and environmental factors that hinder engagement in newlinephysical activities. It highlights that older children demonstrate greater perseverance in newlineparticipation, with no significant differences based on gender or specific disability types. Parental newlineexpectations, particularly regarding visual impairments, negatively impact children s perceptions newlineof the importance of physical activity. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, the study emphasizes newlinethe need for inclusive physical education programs, enhanced educator training, and improved newlineaccess to adaptive sports equipment. Addressing these barriers and fostering a supportive newlineenvironment are crucial for improving participation and overall well-being among differentlyabled newlinechildren. newline
