A study on clinical small field dosimetry in photon radiotherapy

Abstract

Radiation dosimetry plays a vital role in the outcome analysis of radiotherapy treatment, however with the advent of complex radiation therapy techniques such asstereotactic radio surgery (SRS), stereotactic radio therapy (SRT), and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), the use of relatively small fields has increased; like-wise,the use of these field sizes can cause uncertainty in dosimetry. There are many challenges during the small field dosimetry, including (i)The loss of lateral charged particle equilibrium (LCPE) on the beam axis. (ii) Partial occlusion of the primary photon source by the collimating devices. (iii) The detector size with respect to the dimension sradiation field. So, thesmall field dosimetry required special attention and a specific protocol. newline
