Abstract
Women Empowerment is a prerequisite for creating a good nation. It is a holistic concept and multi-dimensional. If a woman is empowered, her competencies towards decision making will surely influence her family and society behavior. The empowerment in the SHG is considered as an unique internal factor influencing the empowerment of women entrepreneurs. Empowering women is to increase their control over the decisions that affect their lives both within and outside the household. SHGs are the voluntary organizations which disburse micro credit to the members and facilitate them to enter into entrepreneurial activities. The present study attempted to analyze the Empowerment of Women Entrepreneurs in SHG in Villupuram District. Primary data required for the study were collected from 245 women entrepreneurs of the SHGs. The main objectives of the study are, to find out the performance and growth of women entrepreneurs in SHG in Villupuram District, to examine the support schemes available to women entrepreneurs to make them empowered, to ascertain the attainment of women empowerment by women entrepreneurs and to evaluate the developmental issues regarding women empowerment. Many hypotheses are framed to analyze various factors and to analyze whether there is any significant difference between monthly income and economic empowerment; monthly income and social empowerment; age and various empowerments and education and various empowerments of the respondents before and after joining SHG. The collected data were analyzed by applying the statistical tools like, Percentage Analysis, One way ANOVA analysis, Paired T-Test, Mean and Standard Deviation, Friedman Test and Chi-square Test. The review of performance of SHGs in Villupuram district reveals that there has been a commendable growth in respect of number of groups formed and women enrolled.
