A Study of The Selected African American and Indian Novelists Dealing with The Weaker Sections of Society

Abstract

The study is based on the analysis of the works of the selected novelists from two different societies in the USA and India. The aim of the study is to trace the historical, cultural, social, and political milieus of both the societies. The superstructures of race in the USA and caste in India tell us about the complicated identities of the marginalized people along the lines of caste, class, colour, gender, race and family structure. Toni Morrison, Gayl Jones, Bama and P. Sivakami all belonging to the contemporary age, have written their works to raise their voices against the subjugation on different reasons as mentioned above. newlineThe African- Americans in the USA and the Dalits in India are still undergoing suffering even today owing to various socio-political and cultural conflicts. The novelists chosen for this study have skillfully represented the dark realities of both the oppressed groups through their extra ordinary creative genius and thus have narrated the saga of subjugation in their respective societies. newline newline
