Abstract
Mushrooms belonging to the genus Ganoderma are iconic and are extensively used as a
newlinefunctional food as well as medicine to promote health. The first part of the research work is on
newlineGanoderma species. Owing to its many medicinal properties, therapeutic and nutritional
newlinebenefits, mushrooms belonging to the genus Ganoderma are among the most sought after in
newlinethe world market. This led to the artificial cultivation of Ganoderma as the wild samples are
newlinenot enough to cater to industrial demands. The extensive global usage of Ganoderma related
newlineproducts makes this mushroom cultivation very productive and beneficial. Though, many
newlineAsian countries are producing Ganoderma at industrial scale, the cultivation of this mushroom
newlineis still at an infancy stage in India. Very few researchers in India had made an attempt to
newlinecultivate Ganoderma. In the present study, eighteen indigenous cultivated Ganoderma species
newlinewere obtained from Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR). These strains were
newlinecollected from different geographical locations across India and were domesticated at IIHR by
newlinecultivating them on locally available substrates. In the present work, all the Ganoderma species
newlinewere screened for determining their bioactive (total triterpene and polysaccharide) contents,
newlinefatty acid composition, absolute and relative quantification of few triterpenes by HPLC and
newlineLCMS-QTOF. Also strains were evaluated for their antioxidant, anticancer and antimicrobial
newlineactivities. It was interesting to study these strains in terms of qualitative and quantitative
newlineanalyses for determining few elite cultivars. As per our knowledge, this is the first study
newlinereporting a comparison of chemical constituents and bioactivity of cultivated Ganoderma spp.
