Abstract

newline Disruptive Technology has been an important field of research for a substantial time period, but its characteristics have undergone significant changes since the Internet gained prominence slightly more than a decade ago. Numerous researchers have examined and put forth ideas and models about the adoption of technology. Their aim is to forecast and elucidate user behaviour towards technology, taking into consideration the rapidly changing evolution of both technologies and their immediate environment. Each theory or model has been offered with distinct sets of determinants and moderators, and the majority of them have been produced in the United States. Hence, there is doubt over the applicability of technology acceptance theories and models that have been formulated, adjusted, and expanded in the United States to be employed in other nations, particularly India. There is also uncertainty regarding the presence of additional factors and moderators that may have significant influences in this particular situation. This thesis conducted a comprehensive review of the literature on disruptive technologies usage in higher education. It also examined previous literature on technology acceptance and usage. Furthermore, it investigated the extent to which academics currently use and intend to use the technology in their work. The study also explored the challenges that restrict faculties from fully utilising technology in their work. Additionally, it examined the impact of technology usage on students. These objectives comprise the main focus of the thesis. This thesis is structured to provide a critical review of relevant information regarding usage of disruptive technologies in higher education among top 10 NIRF ranked Universities of 2019.
