Abstract
This study was taken for spatiotemporal assessment of drought through drought risk index in
newlineBundelkhand region. To identify meteorological drought and its trend, Standardized
newlinePrecipitation Index (SPI) and UNEP Aridity Index (UNEP AI) were applied for different time
newlinescales and Drought Risk Index (DRI) was calculated with the help of data of 1990-2019. To
newlineassess the agricultural drought, GIS and Vegetation Condition Index (VCI) was used. Modified
newlineMann Kendal s test with Sen s slope estimator was applied and trends of drought was
newlinecalculated. Probability of drought occurrences was calculated for different districts of
newlineBundelkhand region using UNEP AI and SPI. The probability of occurrence of extreme cases
newlineof drought was observed highest (3.33 %) in Chhatarpur, Damoh and Lalitpur districts. At
newlineJalaun district, highest percentage of severe drought (8.00 %) was observed and Jhansi district
newlinerecorded moderate drought (11.33 %). The highest probability of occurrence (9.33 %) for
newlinehyper arid status was seen in Datia district. The highest probability of occurrence of semi-arid
newlinecategory was found at Jalaun and Tikamgarh districts (22.67 %). In 1-month scale of SPI, the
newlinesignificant increasing trend of SPI 0.0005 per year and 0.0008 per year was noticed in Damoh
newlineand Lalitpur respectively and in case of 3 -months scale of SPI, 0.0013 per year in Datia district.
newlineIn 6-months scale of SPI, there was significant increasing trend of SPI 0.0014 per year and
newline0.0011 per year in Datia and Lalitpur districts respectively, whereas in 12-months scale of SPI,
newlinethe trend of SPI 0.0019 per year was found in Datia and 0.0013 per year was observed in Sagar
newlinedistrict. In 24-months scale of SPI the significant increasing rate of SPI was found in all the
newlinedistricts except in Hamirpur and Jalaun districts. The significant increasing trend of SPI 0.0013
newlineper year and 0.0006 per year was found in Datia and Jhansi district respectively. In 5-months
newlinescale of SPI during Kharif season (June-October). In the year, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2009,
