Analytical Study on Organic Poultry Farming in Southern Rajasthan

Abstract

newline An analytical study of organic poultry farming was conducted in Non-tribal and newlineTribal area of southern Rajasthan with 240 organic poultry farmers. The study revealed newlinethat majority of respondents belonged to 30 to 50 years of age category (71.67 %) and newlinehaving annual income Rs. 62520-120729 (66.25%). The overall education status of newlinefamily head was up to secondary level (26.67%), having small size of family (62.08%), newlinebelong to nuclear type of family (66.25%). 49.17 per cent of poultry farmers were small newlinefarmers (having 1 to 2 ha. land), (61.25%) having agriculture + animal newlinehusbandry/poultry farming as main occupation, (41.67%) having medium level of newlinefarming experience (6-10 years), head of family was male with (88.33%) and 38.33 per newlinecent were from Schedule Tribe (ST) caste. The majority of the respondents had pucca newlinehouse (44.59 %), have small flock size (52.50%) and most often source of information newlineof majority (88.33%) of respondents was friends and relatives. newlineIt was revealed that majority of respondents of Non-TSP area (60.84%) and TSP newlinearea (58.33%) possessed medium level of knowledge about organic poultry farming. It newlinewas observed that majority of the respondents of both Non-TSP and TSP area had newlineknowledge about Name of improved breeds of poultry and Do you know that there newlineshould be provision of nests for brooding hen . The respondents from Non-TSP area newlinehad highest knowledge about what should be done when litter becomes wet and forms newlinehard crust, frequency of feeding in day and number of feeders to be used to 25 birds newlinewith 79.16, 72.50 and 70.00 MPS and ranked first. The respondents from TSP area had newlinehighest knowledge about after how many days litter should be replaced, necessity to newlineprovide free access area for scavenging and number of waterers to be used for 25 birds newlinewith 64.16, 73.33 and 46.66 MPS and ranked first.
