Effect of Stone Dust on the Strength Parameters of Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete

Abstract

This study explores the effects of fiber and stone dust incorporation on the properties of concrete, newlinefocusing on workability, material density, mechanical strengths, and fracture behavior. The newlineresults indicate that both fiber and stone dust content negatively influence the workability of newlineconcrete, as evidenced by a decrease in slump values from 150 mm (control) to 125 mm with newlineincreasing fiber volume (0% to 5%) and from 150 mm to lower values as stone dust content rises newline(0% to 25%). In terms of material density, the inclusion of fiber and stone dust led to a reduction newlinein both wet density at 7 days (from 2400 kg/m³ to 2350 kg/m³) and dry density at 28 days (from newline2380 kg/m³ to 2320 kg/m³), indicating a lower compactness of the concrete mix. newlineThe study also demonstrates the positive impact of fiber and stone dust on mechanical strengths. newlineSpecifically, compressive strength increased by 6.15%, reaching a maximum of 46 MPa with 3% newlinefiber and 15% stone dust. Similarly, flexural strength improved by 7.94%, achieving a peak value newlineof 7.01 MPa at 4% fiber and 20% stone dust, while split tensile strength increased by 43.08%, newlinereaching 3.95 MPa with 3% fiber and 15% stone dust. Bond strength showed a 49.27% newlineimprovement, with the highest value of 6.18 MPa recorded for 4.5% fiber and 22.5% stone dust. newlineThe Empirical models for predicting the concrete s strength properties demonstrated good newlineagreement with experimental results. For instance, the experimentally observed bond strength at newline28 days (6.18 MPa) closely matched the predicted value of 6.15 MPa. The modulus of elasticity newlinewas also well-predicted, with the regression model yielding a value of 34.02 GPa, closely newlinealigning with the measured value of 33.91 GPa for the mix containing 3% fiber and 15% stone newlinedust.
