C motor drives are used in a multitude of industrial and process applications newlinerequiring high performances. In high-performance drive systems, the motor speed newlineshould closely follow a specified reference trajectory regardless of any load newlinedisturbances, parameter variations, and model uncertainties. For some applications newlinefixed speed is acceptable. However, for most applications, hard acceleration, newlinedeceleration and the inability to vary the speed and torque represent a serious newlineproblem. AC drives provide a solution by modifying the voltage and frequency of newlinethe AC supply to the motor. newlineIn modern control theory, the induction motor is described by different mathematical newlinemodels, according to the employed control method. High dynamic performance, newlinewhich is obtained from dc motors, became achievable from induction motors with newlinethe recent advances in power semiconductors, digital signal processors and newlinedevelopment in control techniques. In vector control, torque and flux of the newlineinduction motors can be controlled independently as in dc motors. newlineThis thesis is proposing to design a closed loop vector control based induction motor newlinedrive using hybrid (Fuzzy + PI) controller. Fuzzy controller is based on artificial newlineintelligence for improving the robustness of the control system. The performance of newlinethe proposed controller compares to the results obtained from the conventional PI newlinecontroller based drive at different operating conditions such as sudden change in newlineload, sudden change in speed etc. The simulation results demonstrate that the newlineperformance of the Fuzzy-PI controller is better than that for the conventional PI newlinecontroller. newlineThe controller is developed in MATLAB/Simulink and hardware implemented on newlineFPGA board, where the controller generates the PWM signal and send the signal to newlinethe gate driver of a three phase inverter to give a stable performance to the induction newlinemotor. Some simulation and experimental results are presented to demonstrate the newlinevalidity of this approach. newline
