Abstract

The thesis entitled PANJABI LOK-KAHANIAN VICHLIAN LOK-ROORIAN DA SABHIYACHARAK MANAV VIGIYANAK ADHIYAN is thoroughly original work in the field of Punjabi Folk Studies. The research employs cultural anthropological approach to study, analyse and categorize folk-motifs, which are an essential part of any folklore. Folk-motifs are one of the most important structural elements of a folktale. The study also delves into the fundamentals of folkmotifs prevalent in Harappan Civilization, Aryan and Semitic Cultures, Buddhist Jatakas and regional cultural traditions. Folk-motifs keep travelling across cultures, which has always been their fundamental characteristic. Folk-motifs are both universal as well as local; the universal aspect is related to magical character of folk-motif. The folk-motifs seem to be highly significant to appreciate the collective unconscious of Punjabi folk, and their contemporary life-styles. The study is a guided journey to make sense of Punjabi culture through the perennial accumulation of folk-motifs. newline
