The Senia bangash gharana of Sarod (stringed instrument) is unparalleled and a class of its own among various other gharanas. It has established itself as the most popular and prominent gharana in the Indian classical music. The ancestors of Senia Bangash invented Sarod by making certain modifications in their instrument Rabab and the tradition of playing this instrument has been continued by the eight generations who are carrying the legacy of the family forward since then. The exceptional attribute of Seniya Bangash Gharana lies in its peculiar use of Sarod s tonal quality and the importance of gayaki and tantrakari.
