Analysis of Genetic Parameters for Yield and Yield Components in maize Zea mays L

Abstract

Maize (Zea mays L., 2n=20) is a significant cereal crop in the Poaceae family, specifically in the Maydeae tribe, and is originally from Central America. Maize belongs to the Zea genus and is the only species within it, possessing a diploid chromosome number of 2n=20. It is closely related to two other members of the American Maydeae group: Tripsacum (commonly known as gamma grass) and Teosinte (Euchlaena), with Teosinte being its nearest genetic relative. Beyond these, maize is also linked to five other species from the Asiatic branch of the Maydeae tribe, which include Chinonachne, Sclerachne, Coix, Trilobachene, and Polytoca. newline
