Abstract
Environmental Education is a subject matter which deals with the different environmental
newlineissues like environmental problems, its protection, environmental knowledge, awareness,
newlinerelation between environment and human being etc. and teaches us about the proper use of our
newlineenvironmental resources. The importance of Environmental Education is not ignorable now.
newlineMaximum countries of the world have great concentration on it specially SAARC countries.
newlineSAARC (Intergovernmental organization) has one working area on environment and its related
newlineissues.
newlineSince very little work has been done in the context of environmental education in the SAARC
newlinecountries and understandably it is imperative to understand the mode of curriculum transaction
newlineand evaluation in this particular field to create a better aware citizenry in future, this present
newlinestudy was formulated and designed to analyse the same.
newlineThe researcher started her study with the review of related literature regarding Environmental
newlineEducation and found related comparative and country wise study at the SAARC area. After
newlinereviewing a lot of related literature, researcher had selected her research problem. The problem
newlineof the present study was attempt to find out the nature of Environmental Education at school
newlinelevel in SAARC countries, where the main emphasis was the present status/ nature of
newlineEnvironmental Education curriculum with respect to curriculum objectives, curriculum
newlinecontent, transaction policy and also evaluation system. For this study, researcher considered
newlinethe eight south Asian countries (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri
newlineLanka and Afghanistan) under SAARC area. Therefore the researcher stated the title of the
newlinestudy as: Environmental Education at the School Level in SAARC Countries .
