Abstract

After independence Indian industrial policy was characterized by strong presence of the newlinestate in production activities, directly through state owned enterprises. Activity of the newlineprivate sector was restricted indirectly through industrial licensing, quotas, permits, newlineimport controls etc. Due to restrictive nature of controls, this period is often called as the newlineLicense-Quota-Permit Raj, evoking British colonial rule in India. newline
