Abstract
newlineIncreasingly, the vast quantities of digital data are produced, exchanged,
newlineused in a variety of settings and finally archived for future use. The impact
newlineof digital computing power and information technology and their
newlineinterconnection gives the possibility of wider platform to enhance archiving
newlineservices as well as it creates various business opportunities in the area
newlineof archival system services. Today, billions of users are archiving their
newlineprivate data, such as documents, photos and videos using mobile and/or
newlineweb-based applications due to availability of cheaper storage services. If
newlinedigital computing power is fixed and long term storage cost are variable,
newlineMoore s Law leads to the paradox of an increasing demand for archival
newlineservices. Today, Archive Institutions promise on one hand many benefits(
newlinee.g. secured long term preservation), but on the other hand, many
newlineforeseen archival systems required reliability availability, integrity, securable
newlinesupport, insurable and above all easy monitoring and supervising of
newlinean archive, which are not given importance.
newlineIn this Thesis, firstly, investigate novel re-encryption based archival system.
newlineWe present a design of an efficient archival system which dynamically
newlinebalances three crucial features such as security, reliability and availability.
newlineThe strong focus is to increase the security level by periodical
newlinere-encryption mechanism for highly sensitive archives and decrease operational
newlineload by using light weight cryptographic algorithm. Secondly, we
newlineinvestigate a technique that is used to confirm integrity and proof of existence
newlineof an archive, whenever an authorized entity needs. This solution
newlineis not only suitable to a specific periodical re-encryption based archival
newlinesystem but also to any existing storage systems from long term point of
newlineview. Thirdly, we investigate protocol to be used for secure insurability
newlineservices of valuable archives. We present this protocol by considering
