Analysis of hydrodynamic journal bearing with diand#64256;erent conand#64257;gurations is carried out to enhance the performance characteristics using partial surface texturing and addition of nanoparticles in lubricant. The performance analysis of journal bearing is numerically performed using the thin and#64257;lm and#64258;ow physics of COMSOL Multiphysics 5.0 software. The static performance characteristics like and#64258;uid and#64257;lm pressure (FFP), load carrying capacity (LCC), frictional torque (FT), frictional power loss (FPL), shear rate and temperature rise are studied for various geometrical as well as operating conditions for smooth surface cylindrical shape journal bearing. This baseline model is validated with results obtained from the literature. The validated baseline model is modiand#64257;ed using diand#64256;erent conand#64257;gurations of surface texturing. Analysis of journal bearing with partial texturing, comparative analysis of groove and ellipsoidal dimple shape texturing is carried out. Further, investigation of conical shape journal bearing with partial dimple shape surface texturing is also conducted. After that, a multi-objective optimization approach is used to determine the optimal surface texturing parameters to improve the performance of a hydrodynamic journal bearing. The numerical attempts are made using Taguchi s orthogonal L27 array. The bearing performance is analyzed for various groove parameters viz. groove location, groove width, groove height, number of grooves and spacing between grooves. Grey relational analysis method is used to and#64257;nd an optimal set of parameters which will give maximum and#64258;uid and#64257;lm pressure and load carrying capacity with minimum frictional torque, power loss. Further, optimization of ellipsoidal dimple shape textured journal bearing is performed. newline
