Acceptance and Commitment Therapy A Contextual Approach to Adolescents Social Emotional Intelligence

Abstract

ABSTRACT newline newlineThe present study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of Acceptance and commitment therapy on Social emotional intelligence among adolescents at selected institutions, Tamilnadu. To find out the mental wellbeing, to determine the level of stress among experimental and control group, to correlate social and emotional intelligence, mental wellbeing and stressful life events among experimental and control group. About 500 samples with disproportionate stratified random sampling technique were employed for the study. Predesigned socio demographic schedule, Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-being scale, Social emotional intelligence inventory (Paul Mohapel) were used as a screening tools. After exposure to acceptance and commitment therapy the experimental group showed significant improvement in social emotional intelligence and mental well being and reduction in stress. Adolescents are the future pillars of the society, strengthening their coping and psychological flexibility through acceptance and commitment therapy improves their social emotional intelligence there by promoting the mental health and minimizing the stress makes the younger community more productive for the further life. newline
