Abstract
In India, beedi manufacturing is one of the oldest agro-forest based industries which has
newlineplayed very crucial role in the economy and also continuing to influence the socio-economic
newlinelife of the workers involved in this industry. Since there is no eligibility criterion for the
newlineworkers employed in the beedi industry, most of the workers engaged in this industry come
newlinefrom unemployed, uneducated and underprivileged sections of the society. This industry has
newlineshown a means of earnings, especially to the financially weaker and socially backward people.
newlineA large number of the unorganised sector workers (about 45.7 million people) are engaged in
newlinethis industry.
