Characterization of microstructure mechanical properties and tribological behavior of cold sprayed AA7075 alloy using ball milled and quasicrystal powders

Abstract

In this thesis, the AA7075 T6 substrate undergoes cold spray coating utilizing a 5- newlinehour ball-milled mixture of Cu 41 Al 40 Fe 18.18 B .82 powder and boron-doped Al 65 Cu 20 Fe 15 quasicrystal powder. The goal of applying cold spray coating to the AA7075 substrate using CuAlFeB powder is likely to enhance the substrateand#39;s surface properties. The effect of oxidation, evaporation, melting, crystallization, debonding, gas release, or other problems that are inevitable in other conventional thermal spray processes can be minimized or eliminated by the cold spray coating technique. As per the findings of this current study, employing a 5-hour ball-milled powder has led to positive adhesion of the coating to the AA7075substrate.The coating applied with ball-milled powder on the AA7075 substrate has been observed to enhance wear resistance and corrosion resistance properties, as reported. Additionally, by measuring the coefficient of friction, it is confirmed that as the stagnation temperature and pressure in the cold spray coating process increase, the coefficient of friction decreases. Consequently, this results in the attainment of a high-quality coating on the AA7075 substrate. In the current investigation, it is similarly documented that the application of Al 65 Cu 20 Fe 15 B powder has yielded positive newlineadhesion of the coating to the AA7075 substrate. The corrosion test findings indicate that with anincrease in temperature and pressure, there is a potential decrease in the corrosion rate in salt water environments. This research underscores the pronounced effectiveness of cold spray coating in actively enhancing corrosion resistance in saltwater environments.
