Behaviour of laterally loaded rcframes with reinforced infills

Abstract

Due to recent development in structural analysis and design high newlinerise structures have become a popular one The functional requirements and newlinestructural safety of a structure can be obtained from building laws building newlinecodes and by adopting appropriate design methods But in a developing newlinecountry like India the economy of construction is also of major importance newlineA frame system becomes structurally less efficient when subjected newlineto large lateral loads such as a strong wind earthquake or explosion The newlinesituation becomes worse when the structural height is increased In the past newlinefew decades efforts to develop more efficient structural systems with better newlineresistance against strong lateral loads have yielded good results Among these newlinesystems the one least understood but of great potential is the infilled frame a newlinecomposite structure formed by the combination of a moment resisting frame newlineand infill walls and this has been shown to exhibit excellent behaviour newline newline
