Abstract
South Asia has highly entrenched in the game of power politics both during
newlinethe Cold War and post-Cold War era. In the post-Cold War era, it has undergone
newlinesignificant shifts and turns. It has operated in strategic and power realignments
newlineand rearrangements among major powers both extra regional and regional having
newlinegeopolitical and geostrategic involvement in the region. The major powers have
newlinerealigned and developed partnerships with respect to their interests, security and
newlinedominance, and addressing of large challenges in the emerged geopolitical and
newlinegeostrategic power dynamics. The powers have pursued their strategies, acted
newlineand engaged within strategic realignments. The US has shifted its policy and
newlineengaged both Pakistan and India in a way to maintain its dominance and ensure
newlinediverse interests in the region. Russia has worked to develop its lost role in the
newlineregion by developing its equations with India, China and Pakistan given the large
newlinegeopolitical changes both at the regional and global level. China has also
newlineincessantly and aggressively developed its dominance particularly through its
newlineproxy Pakistan. It has even developed strategic relations with Russia to mark its
newlineinfluence in the region. India and Pakistan, emerged significantly powerful in the
newlinepost-Cold War era, have also engaged in strategic realignments and
newlinerearrangements with the US, China and Russia with respect to their interests.
newlineWhile engaging through their strategic realignments and rearrangements, all the
newlinepowers have employed diverse capabilities and tactics, played on the strengths of
newlineeach other and exercised strategic manoeuvres against rivals, opponents and
newlinecompetitors. These implements have emerged efficacious and valuable under
newlinestrong partnerships based on large convergence of interests. However, since
newlinemajor powers have become more realistic, flexible and harder to ensure larger and
newlinediverse interests, they have explored every possible alternative and developed
newlinemultiple strategic engagements and partnerships.
