Development of nanocarriers of beta carotene and lycopene with improved bioavailability potential and as adjunct to drug therapy

Abstract

The research work entails development and application of diverse polymer and lipid-based nanocarriers like solid lipid nanoparticles, whey protein isolate nanoparticles, zein nanoparticles and surface engineered lipid- polymer hybrid nanoparticles for delivery of beta carotene and lycopene in breast cancer. The pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies, coupled with extensive molecular biological characterization, exhibited significantly enhanced anticancer potential of the developed nanocarriers vis a-vis the plain bioactive, thus demonstrating immense translational promise.
