Abstract
ABSTRACT
newlineThe structural material identified for the work is 15CDV6 steel belongs to the category of
newlineHigh Strength Low Alloy (HSLA) family. HSLA steels vary from other alloys in the context;
newlinethey are not made to meet a specific chemical composition but rather to specific mechanical
newlineproperties. The material finds its application in the fabrication of rocket motor casings,
newlinepressure vessels etc. and features excellent strength, mechanical properties, high strength
newlineto weight ratio, good corrosion resistance, better workability and weldability. Several
newlinecomponents in the space program are developed by one of the candidate process named
newlineas Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding process. Arc welding process named as Gas tungsten
newlinearc welding (GTAW) also called as TIG welding, which produces the weld by deploying
newlinethe non-consumable tungsten electrode. Inert shielding gas (argon or helium), are utilized
newlinefor the protection of the weld area from atmospheric contamination or by generally utilizing
newlinethe filler metal. The full penetration for joints thicker than 3 mm is obtained usually by the
newlinemultiple pass TIG welding with filler wire. In multiple pass welding, because of the uneven
newlinethermal cycles, there may be a generation of tensile residual stresses within the weld zone
newlineand directs the crack formation and angular distortions also occur during this process. These
newlinelimitations can be overcome by the narrative TIG welding variant named Powdered Flux TIG
newlinewelding and thereby it is utilized in the learning of attaining complete penetration in a single
newlinepass. Further, this research work contributes some advanced model of TIG welding with
newlinesome new mathematical concepts. The main objective of this research work is to attain a full
newlinepenetration over the single pass autogenous (without filler wire) TIG welding by searching
newlinethe process parameters optimally with respect to the minimum potential heat input in 6.2
newlinemm thickness in 15CDV6 steel.
newlineThe primary contribution of this research work is the selection of maximum and
newlineminimum level of GTAW paramet
