Abstract
ABSTRACT
newlineINTRODUCTION :
newline Obstructive sleep apnea is defined by recurrent bouts of partial
newlineand total airway blockages during sleep, as well as repetitive apneas and
newlinehypopneas. The sleep apnea is characterized by sporadic total and partial
newlineairway collapse, which leads to frequent episodes of apnea and hypopnea.
newlineOropharyngeal exercise are a brand new, non- invasive and cost effective
newlinetreatment option for mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea. It is more
newlinephysiological, has long lasting effects and functions by making the
newlinepharyngeal muscles more toned. Exercise for the oropharynx muscles, which
newlinealso include the tongue, soft palate and facial muscles were adapted from
newlinespeech- language pathology. The following tasks were mandated for patients
newlineto complete by single speech pathologist. In that a patient could assist them.
newlineTwo times a day, the patients received a 20 minutes training session that
newlineincluded all of the activities.
newlineSTATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM :
newline Effectiveness of oropharyngeal exercises on snoring, daytime
newlineSleepiness and Anthropometric measurement Among Adults with
newlineObstructive Sleep Apnea.
newlineOBJECTIVES:
newline1. To assess the level of Snoring, daytime sleepiness And Anthropometric
newlinemeasurement Among Adults with obstructive sleep apnea.
newline2. To determine the effectiveness of oropharyngeal exercise on Snoring,
newlinedaytime sleepiness and Anthropometric Measurement among adults with
newlineobstructive sleep apnea within experimental group.
newline3. To compare the posttest level of Snoring, daytime sleepiness and
newlineAnthropometric measurement between the experimental group and control
newlinegroup among adults with Obstructive sleep apnea.
newline4. To associate the post-test level of snoring, daytime sleepiness and
newlineanthropometric measurement with demographic variables among
newlineexperimental group.
newlineRESEARCH METHODOLOGY:
newline Quasi- experimental research design was adopted for this study. An
newlineauthorized setting permission was obtained from Saveetha Medical College
newlineand Hospital, Chennai.
