Abstract
Phthalonitrile based polymers constitute a class of high temperature
newlineresins having a wide range of potential applications such as composite
newlinematrices, adhesives and coatings A major advantage of phthalonitrile resins
newlinecompared with other plastics is their ability to withstand temperature in
newlineexcess of 200 coatings plastics or composites made therefrom Polymerization takes place
newlinethrough the terminal cyano group by an addition mechanism to afford crosslinked
newlinenetworks The monomer curing additive compositions are easy to
newlineprocess into void free components that exhibit excellent thermal and
newlineoxidative stability Some of the alternative efficient green techniques such as ionic
newlineliquids ILs microwave MW and supercritical media have been used Ionic
newlineliquids have many interesting properties such as nonvolatility good
newlineconductivity good thermal stability nonflammability and can dissolve most
newlineorganic and inorganic materials Microwave irradiation provides an effective
newlineand fast synthetic method by heating molecules directly through the
newlineinteraction between the microwave energy and molecular dipole moments of
newlinethe starting materials Above its critical point Tc 31 1 C Pc 73 8 bar
newlinecarbon dioxide can have a number of attractive properties such as
newlineenvironmental benignity energy efficiency and dissolves most of the organic
newlinecompounds
