Job Satisfaction Amongst College Teachers A Case Study Of Malwa Region

Abstract

Every prospective employee seeks a job in which he/she has handsome salary, other amenities, cordial supervisor, chances of promotion and amiable working environment. Job satisfaction of an employee is a necessary requirement for the survival of an organization. It is especially important in case of teachers because if they are satisfied with their jobs, only then they can provide quality education. Quality education is the pre-requisite for sustainable development of a country. Malwa is the most significant region of Punjab. There is a great need to study the job satisfaction of college teachers in this region. Present study focuses on determination of job satisfaction of college teachers in Malwa region. It also strives to find out difference in the job satisfaction of college teachers on the basis of their work experience, gender, marital status and various socio-economic conditions. newlinePopulation for the present study consists of teachers working in colleges in Malwa region. Bathinda, Barnala, Sangrur and Mansa districts of Malwa region have been chosen on non-probability basis in this study. In these four districts, there are 184 colleges, out of which 156 colleges (85%) are Private Aided Colleges/ Self-Financed Colleges and 28 colleges are Govt. Colleges/ Constituent Colleges/ Neighbourhood Campuses. In these four districts, there are 4591 college teachers, out of which 3759 college teachers (82%) are working in Private Aided Colleges/ Self-Financed Colleges and 832 college teachers are working in Govt. Colleges/ Constituent Colleges/ Neighbourhood Campuses. For the present study, size of sample is 400 college teachers in Malwa region. Sample has been taken proportionate to total number of teachers in these four districts. newlineBoth primary data and secondary data have been used for the present study. Primary data regarding respondents have been collected through modified structured questionnaire. First part of the questionnaire includes 36 statements as per Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS).
