Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the geopolitical significance of Tibet within the broader framework of India-China relations. It sought to explore how Tibet s strategic location, historical status, and evolving political dynamics have shaped the geopolitical landscape of the region. Furthermore, the research examined the role of Tibet in India-China border tensions, its significance in regional security, and its impact on diplomatic engagements between the two nations. Tibet has historically functioned as a buffer zone between India and China, but its occupation and integration into the People s Republic of China (PRC) have altered the strategic calculus of both countries. This study critically examined how Tibet s geopolitical significance has evolved over time, particularly in relation to shifting military, economic, and diplomatic strategies.
newlineAdditionally, the study assessed the influence of Tibet s geopolitical status on economic and infrastructural developments, including China s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and India s counterstrategies. The region s rich water resources, including the Brahmaputra and Indus River systems, further intensify its geopolitical significance, as both India and China recognize the strategic value of Tibet s hydrological resources. China s growing military presence in the Tibetan plateau, its rapid infrastructure development, and its attempts to reconfigure the region s political and cultural identity have direct implications for India s border security and diplomatic positioning. This study explored how these developments affect India s strategic responses, including military deployments, diplomatic negotiations, and economic policies aimed at counterbalancing China s growing influence in Tibet. This study employed qualitative research methods. Findings of this study indicate that Tibet remains a critical factor in India-China relations, often viewed through the lens of security concerns and strategic maneuvering.
