dc.description.abstractBiobased energy is a renewable energy derived from the materials newlineof biological origin. The utilization of bioenergy suppresses the green house newlinegas (GHG) effect and is a possible replacement for fossil fuels. Excessive newlinegreen house gas emissions due to the utilization of fossil fuels created a newlinecaution at environmental, social and economic level. Hence, production of newlinerenewable, carbon neutral and economically sustainable bioenergy has newlinebecome the major requisite worldwide. newlineMicrobial fuel cell (MFC) is a promising device for the sustainable newlineproduction of electricity. MFC is a new technology, which simultaneously newlinetreats wastewater and generates bioelectricity using microorganisms. MFC newlinewith biological anodes and cathodes has more prominence for newlinecommercialization. Apart from power generation, other major applications of newlineMFC are wastewater treatment, CO2 sequestration, removal of heavy metals newlineand bioremediation. In the recent years, modified versions of MFC - newlinemicrobial carbon capture cell (MCC), or photosynthetic microbial fuel cell, or newlinealgal assisted microbial fuel cell (AAMFC) are very much attractive. newline
