Abstract
BRICS is the association of five major emerging national economies namely Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. This association was formerly known as BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) before the inclusion of South Africa in 2010.The term BRIC was first coined by the chief economist, Goldman Sachs in 2001. The head office of BRICS countries is situated in Shanghai, China. The purpose of this association was to uplift peace, security, development and co-operation. The BRICS members are known for their meaningful influence on regional affairs. Since 2009, the governments of BRICS countries have met yearly at formal summits. First formal summit of BRIC countries held in Yekaterinburg, Russia on 16th June, 2009. In September, 2021 India hosted the most recent 13th BRICS summit and it was the third time that India hosted BRICS summit after 2012 and 2016 .The five BRICS members countries are highly populated and the two most populated countries in the world i.e. China and India are included in BRICS.
