Abstract

The study entitled A Study on Bamboo-Based Enterprises in Tripura State, India was conducted during 2024 25 to assess the role and challenges of bamboo entrepreneurs in the region. The research focused on four objectives: (i) analyzing the socioeconomic characteristics of bamboo entrepreneurs, (ii) examining investment requirements for startups and enterprises, (iii) assessing income distribution, and (iv) identifying operational constraints. Primary data were collected from 70 entrepreneurs across Tripura using structured questionnaires and interviews. newlineSocioeconomic profiling revealed diversity in age, education, gender participation, and household income patterns. Financial feasibility analysis using Payback Period, Net Present Worth (NPW), and Benefit-Cost Ratio (BCR) indicated that most bamboo enterprises are economically viable with short recovery periods. Income distribution analysis through the Lorenz Curve and Gini Coefficient (and#8776;0.28) showed moderate inequality among entrepreneurs. Constraints identified through Garrett Ranking highlighted poor infrastructure, limited market access, inadequate financial support, and lack of technical training as major bottlenecks. newlineThe study concludes that bamboo-based enterprises contribute significantly to rural employment and income generation in Tripura but remain constrained by systemic challenges. Strengthening supply chains, improving access to credit, enhancing training programs, and developing market linkages are essential for scaling up the sector. The findings provide actionable insights for policymakers, development agencies, and stakeholders aiming to promote inclusive rural development through bamboo entrepreneurship in Northeast India. newline newline
