Abstract
Background: Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic endocrine disorder due to insulin
newlineimbalances associated with microvascular and macrovascular complications.
newlineObjectives: This research aimed to explore the diabetes-healing effect of
newlineAdenocalymma alliaceum Miers phytochemicals. Materials and methods: Before
newlinesecondary screening on animals, phytochemical constituent estimation, thin-layer
newlinechromatography, high-performance liquid chromatography, column chromatography,
newlineGas chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy (GC-MS), and acute toxicity study were
newlineperformed. Both Invitro and in vivo models were studied to confirm the antidiabetic
newlineproperty of the Adenocalymma alliaceum Miers flower (EEAAF). Invitro study was
newlineperformed using a rat pancreatic cell line for cytotoxicity, glucose utilization, and
newlineglucose redistribution assay. Later acute toxicity as per OECD TG 423 and in vivo
newlineexperiments was carried out by two diabetic inducing agents i. Streptozotocin, ii.
newlineAlloxan monohydrate. In both model, Wistar albino rats was carried out in five groups
newlineof animals Normal control (NC), diabetic control (DC), Standard group (Std), Low dose
newline(EEAAF 100 mg/kg, b.w), Medium dose (EEAAF 250 mg/kg, b.w) and High dose
newline(EEAAF 500 mg/kg, b.w) group. Each group consists of six animals. Upon regular
newlineobservation for fasting blood glucose level, body weight, polyuria, polyphagia, serum
newlineprotein, serum creatinine, serum urea, and lipid profile for four weeks, the animals were
newlinesacrificed using Ketamine hydrochloride. Organs were removed. Pancreases were used
newlinefor observing cellular injury using Olympus binocular microscope at 45X. Isolated liver
newlinecells homogenate used for free radical scavenging activity such as superoxide dismutase
newline(SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione (GSH). Results: The results showed the
newlinepresence of polyphenol and alkaloids, especially flavonoids. Current characteristics of
newlineA. alliaceum include many principal secondary metabolites on GC-MS. On isolation
newlineand spectroscopic determination, Flacitran was found. There was neither mortality nor
newlinemorb
