Synthesis Characterization and Biological Properties of Fe II Co II and Ni II Schiffs Base Complexes

Abstract

Abstract newlineThe Ph.D. Thesis entitled Synthesis, Characterization and Biological Properties of Fe(II), Co(II) and Ni(II) Schiffs base complexes which is being submitted by Bittu Kumar under the supervision of Prof. (Dr.) P.N.Piyush, Principal [Retd.] Department of Chemistry B.N.M.V. College,Sahugarh Madhepura (Bihar) consist of five chapters including bibliography. newline The first chapter introduces the subject Introduction highlighting with the earlier works reported in the field. The second chapter consists Synthesis of Transition Metals Schiffs base complexes. In the third chapter biological Properties of transition metal Schiffs base complexes have been described. The fourth chapter consists of characterization and application of transition metal Schiffs base complexes. In the fifth chapter summary and conclusion have been discussed and bibliography cited. newlineSchiff bases are generally bidentate, tridentate tetradentate or polydentate ligands capable of forming very stable complexes with transition metals. They can only act as coordinating ligands if they bear a functional group, usually the hydroxyl, sufficiently near the site of condensation in such a way that a five or six membered ring can be formed when reacting with metal ion. newlineThe present thesis deals with synthesis and characterisation of a pair of polydentate Schiff base ligand H4L1 and H4L2 and their complexes with Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II). H4L1 is the semicarbazone of 4, 6-diformylresorcinol and H4L2 is thiosemicarbazone of the same ketone-4, 6-diformylresorcinol. newlineH4L1 is an oxygen nitrogen donor ligand and H4L2 is a oxygen nitrogen, sulphur donor ligand. The ligand have been synthesised by the Schiff base condensation of 4, 6-diformylresorcinol with semicarbazide/thiosemicarbazide hydrochloride. newlineThe synthetic reaction for the ligand was performed in ethanolic medium. The stoichiometric proportion of the ketone and carbazide was 1:2. newlineAntimicrobial activities were carried out by cup and plate method. The ligand and their complexes were
