Development and Performance Analysis of Solar Photovoltaic Thermoelectric Generator Hybrid System

Abstract

With the increase in energy requirement and problems like pollution, climate newlinechange, global warming, demand for clean and sustainable energy and especially newlinesolar energy has been increased over the past decade. This solar energy can be easily newlineharnessed in usable forms, like, electricity and thermal energy. The photovoltaic newline(PV) systems are used for direct conversion of solar energy into electrical energy newlinethrough photovoltaic effect and the thermoelectric generators (TEG) through newlineSeebeck effect converts the thermal energy directly into electrical energy. The newlinepresent research deals with development and performance analysis of solar newlinephotovoltaic-thermoelectric generator hybrid system for maximizing the power newlinegeneration and utilizing the waste heat produced by the PV system. The maximum newlinepower produced in PV module was 3.9 W but with integration of TEG module and newlineheat sink the maximum power was 5.25 W. The average increase in power due to newlineintegration of both the PV module and TEG module for hybrid system was 18.5% to newline20.9% when compared with only PV producing the power with average energy newlineefficiency of maximum of 14.09 %. For the energy economics of developed system, newlinethe energy and exergy analysis of hybrid system was carried out for estimating the newlinequantity and quality of energy respectively and the average exergy efficiency was newlinefound to be maximum of 14.22 %.
