dc.description.abstractDue to the rapid development in congested urban areas, the scarcity of newlineavailable land area increases rapidly. Deep underground excavation in such areas newlinebecomes challenging as numerous structures such as underground transport systems, newlinehigh-rise building foundations, basements, water pipelines, and many others exist newlineclose to the deep excavation and are located at a considerable depth below the ground newlinesurface. Those existing structures in the form of surcharge load surrounding the deep newlineexcavation induce additional lateral pressure along with the lateral earth pressure and newlinehydrostatic pressure.
