Abstract

A Compact Plasma System (CPS) is assembled in the Plasma Research Laboratory of the newlineDepartment of Physics, Ravenshaw University in which washer plasma gun, background plasma newlinesource associated with an electric field, a synchronized pulsed electromagnet and other newlinediagnostic systems are integrated. The experiment has been carried about in a curved vacuum newlinechamber and the plasma structure from washer plasma moves radially towards the wall of the newlinechamber. In this research work spatial variation of inert gas plasma such as argon plasma is newlineexperimentally investigated at different base pressure, at different discharging potential in the newlinepresence and absence of magnetic field. Spectral signatures of argon plasma from plasma gun newlineare explored by using emission spectroscopy method in the presence and absence of background newlineplasma. newlineIn Chapter-I the fundamental physics of plasma and its confinement in controlled newlinethermonuclear research are briefly discussed. The current status of different methods for plasma newlineproduction in laboratory is explored. The necessity of production of plasma in vacuum system newlineusing plasma gun and its different types are discussed. Different diagnostic approaches of newlineplasma phenomena for its better understanding through different plasma parameters are newlinediscussed. Review of previous works is carried out for measurement of different plasma newlineparameters using diagnostic techniques such as Langmuir single probe, double probe, newlinespectroscopy. newlineIn Chapter-II, experimental set up which consists of plasma chamber, vacuum system, newlinepulse forming network (PFN), electromagnet, plasma gun, gas fed system, background plasma newlinesource, different diagnostic technique such as Langmuir single, double probe, velocity probe, newlinespectroscopy and data acquisition system are discussed. newlineIn Chapter-III spatial variation of pulsed argon plasma speed for different operating newlineconditions is measured. A washer stacked plasma gun is used to produce a plasma structure of newlineplasma which is injected with a high speed in to the curved ch
