CROSS SECTIONAL ANALYSIS OF A SELECT SET OF PROMINENT INSTITUTIONAL REPOSITORY SOFTWARE BEING USED IN MAJOR RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS IN INDIA

Abstract

This study is to find out the cross sectional analysis of various institutional repositories newlinebeing used in major research institutions in India. It focuses on the evaluation of institutional newlinerepositories as per the selected evaluation criteria. It also highlights the importance of open newlinesource software for using library activities and services. Open source software has taken a major newlinerole in the development of softwares and offers a number of attractions for libraries, especially newlinefor developing countries. Here the institutional repositories selected for the study was open newlinesource software and the institutions selected for the study were taken randomly. newlineTo offer the complete satisfaction of users and perform the institutional repository newlineactivities and functions, we must select competent and suitable software which can meet out user newlinerequirements. Librarians and information professionals must keep in mind some basic aspects newlinebefore selection of institutional repository software. Therefore, an evaluation of appropriate newlinesoftware is very much needed for any libraries for user friendliness, efficiency and cost newlineeffectiveness. So an evaluation is basically a judgment of worth. Institutional repositories need to newlinedevelop a criteria for measuring their performance in an evolving and highly competitive newlineenvironment. A survey method was used for the collection of data and fifty-eight research newlineinstitutions were participated in the survey process. An on-line questionnaire was prepared for newlinecollection of data for the proposed research. Administrators and users of the institutional newlinerepository are the major respondent s in the data collection procedure. Collected data structured newlineinto frequency distribution, Chi-square test and cross tabulation test using SPSS software. Cross newlinetabulation techniques given the clear result about the cross analysis of various institutional newlinerepository software s. Thus, the primary and secondary data and their practical study will help to newlinereach the conclusion.
