Abstract
In this study, a comparative analysis between conventional PI-controlled STATCOM and FLC-based STATCOM is conducted under single-phase and three-phase AC transmission scenarios. The fuzzy logic controller utilizes linguistic rules and membership functions to dynamically adjust the modulation index and reference currents of the Voltage Source Converter (VSC), thereby optimizing the reactive power flow. The system is modeled and simulated in MATLAB/Simulink, incorporating Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) techniques for converter control. Simulation results demonstrate that the FLC-based STATCOM exhibits superior dynamic performance, faster response time, and greater robustness against load disturbances compared to conventional controllers.
newlineThe research also explores the mathematical formulation of STATCOM operation and its control strategy, emphasizing the adaptability of fuzzy logic in handling system uncertainties. The findings confirm that integrating fuzzy logic with STATCOM significantly improves the stability, reliability, and efficiency of power transmission systems, making it a promising approach for advanced reactive power compensation in smart grid environments.
