Abstract
The present study reports biological activities of oil extracted from seed of Withania coagulans and roots of Angelica glauca. Both the plants possess immense medicinal potential however there existed a research gap pertaining to studies conducted to assess biological activities of oil of selected plant species. In the present study protocol for extraction of oil from seeds of W. coagulans and roots of A. glauca was optimized. The extracted oil was characterized through FTIR and GC-MS which revealed presence of phyto compounds with biological and pharmacological activities. Major secondary metabolites identified to be present in oil were vanillin, squalene, Vitamin E, hexanoic acid and fucosterol. Similarly, danazol, aureonitol, cyclotetradecane were among important metabolites A. glauca oil. Oil extracted from both the plant species was found to exhibit anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-microbial activity. The results obtained for mentioned biological activities were found comparable to standards. The studied biological potential depict the potential of oil of both plants to be utilized in various industries for diverse applications. In addition to biological activities, in the present study the residue obtained after oil extraction was utilized to synthesize catalyst. Synthesized catalyst was characterized through SEM, FTIR, XRD and EDX studies. The catalyst was found to exhibit potential application to be utilized for bioremediation. Experimental studies conducted illustrated the catalyst to absorb methylene blue from test samples. The absorption of methylene blue by catalyst was confirmed through spectrometric studies and FTIR analysis of pure catalyst, catalyst obtained after treatment of methylene blue solution and methylene blue. Hence, the present study report the findings of the present study suggest utilization of oil of both the plant species for medicinal purposes after validation studies utilization of catalyst synthesized from plant residue for treatment of polluted water.
